Same as You (SAY) Speakers are self-advocates that go to schools and other community groups to talk with people of all ages that teasing and bullying hurts, that everyone should be kinder to one another, and to see the person instead of the disability. The SAY Speakers were teased and tormented and discouraged from having dreams of living independently, working in the community or marrying. Despite this, they have gone on to achieve their hopes and dreams. They have a powerful message to share with us all!
Their presentation is offered in two parts. Part one discusses “The Roles We All Play” (Bullies, Victims, Bystanders and Allies). The goal of part one is the students will learn to identify each of the roles and to develop empathy. Part two focuses on conflict resolution and social responsibility. It is advised that part one and part two are scheduled one week apart. Both presentations are very interactive.
